FireOnTheMixer DJ Contest holds
FireOnTheMixer DJ Contest holds

A contest aimed at redefining Disc Jockeys (DJ) in the Federal Capital Territory is underway says Mr Collins Cocko, organiser of the Contest.
The contest tagged: “FireOnTheMixer” and targeted at young people, is aimed at giving DJs their pride of place in the entertainment industry, beginning from the FCT.
Speaking with our correspondent in Abuja on Tuesday, Mr Cocko said that FireOnTheMixer was designed to be a recognised brand that hosts DJ competitions in Nigeria and Africa.
“We are seriously working to achieve this. The aim of this show is to be the platform that will inspire, empower and grow Nigeria DJs to become a nationwide brand and internationally recognized.
“From our own point of view, “no DJ no show”. It therefore becomes very paramount to understand how important a DJ is to an entertainment event or show biz.
“Low skilled or unexposed DJ will not “turn up” your event and this is exactly why FireOnTheMixer DJ contest is created.
“We want to constantly highlight various DJs who understand their game to the public so that today’s dynamic and concept based kind of events can have the right talented skilled DJ to make it happen,” he said.
Cocko added that the contest as well as the brand was not only about making events happen but also about sensitising and training young Nigerians who have the zeal to become Disc Jockeys.
In this light, he added that a DJ school would soon be open in Abuja where young Nigerian can be trained to become DJs and music producers.
He added that the contest would also expose the best DJs to big brands who will be taking them on to represent them.
“In the nearest feature we will be having a DJ schools in Abuja and other states to provide adequate training and exposure to the youths.
“Nigeria’s entertainment industry is so significant that it contributes to the country’s GDP immensely.
“Who makes up the largest number in the Nigerian entertainment industry? The answer is the youths. Who makes up the greatest number in the DJ industry? The answer is still the youths.
“No entertainment events will function efficiently and smoothly if there is no DJ. This implies that for every entertainment event a DJ is employed, it means that a youth is “engaged” and of course, the youth gets paid.
“So, the more skilled Nigerian DJs are, the more the probability of new creative entertainment shows spring up and more money is contributed to the GDP,” he said.
He expressed optimism that the brand would grow to be recognised as the Pan African DJ contest brand.
He said that the contest will hold on Sunday, November 29, at Emerald park Area 3, Garki Abuja by 2pm.
He called for support from individuals and companies in the entertainment world.
