CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
Introduction
This conference is aimed at understanding the roles of innovation, governance, and human capital in building sustainable and resilient economies in Africa. In the face of the current global uncertainties arising from trade wars and conventional wars, leading to significant economic shocks, especially in developing economies around the world, this aim is particularly relevant to Africa. Evidence abounds in the extant literature of how the trio of innovation, governance, and human capital have been responsible for the growth trajectory in developed economies. For instance, the development of the Asian Tigers was driven by government-led, export-oriented strategies, focusing on innovative industrialisation, significant investment in human capital, and the development of robust infrastructure. While advanced economies around the globe have leveraged these factors to develop strong mechanisms to withstand external shocks, the same cannot be said of African economies. Given the important roles of innovation, governance, and human capital in building sustainable and resilient economies, therefore, it is pertinent to uncover how Africa can leverage these factors towards achieving the African Union’s Agenda 2063 – the Africa we want! It is our expectation that the outcomes of the conference will help to shape policymaking on the continent.
Academics, researchers, civil society organizations, practitioners, and postgraduate students are now invited to submit policy-relevant abstracts for inclusion in any of the sub-themes of the 5th International Virtual Conference of the Department of Economics, University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
