
9th Round of STEG PhD Research Grant Applications Now Open
The Ninth Call for STEG PhD Research Grants is currently open, offering funding of up to £15,000 to support PhD students in researching structural transformation and economic growth in low- and middle-income countries.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Currently enrolled in a PhD program
- Research focus on specified themes, including:
- Data, measurement, and conceptual framing
- Firms, frictions, and spillovers, and industrial policy
- Labour, home production, and structural transformation at the household level
- Agricultural productivity and sectoral gaps
- Trade and spatial frictions
- Role of the public sector
- Cross-cutting issues: gender, climate change, environment, inequality, and inclusion
- Relevant to policy in low-income countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa
Funding Details:
- Up to £15,000 for research assistance, data collection, and stipends
- Stipends capped at £12,000 for PhD students in high-income countries (PPP equivalent for low- and middle-income countries)
Application Process:
- Submit proposal via SRG Application Form on Hub
- Include letter of support from PhD supervisor (due two weeks after deadline)
- Deadline: December 1, 2025 (23:59 GMT)
