Eligibility for NYCU Scholarship
nternational students who have completed one semester of study at the University and meet the following academic performance criteria:
(1) Graduate students: Each semester, the potential candidate must take at least one course on a professional subject (core course) and maintain a total average grade of at least 3.5 scored by grade point.
(2) Undergraduate students: Eligible students must maintain a total average grade of at least 3.0 scored by grade point.
(3) Conduct grade of A or above
Students currently receiving government funded scholarships (e.g. Taiwan Scholarships, ESP Scholarship, UST Scholarship, TIGP Scholarship, NSNT Scholarship, scholarship sponsored by government of your home country….etc) are not eligible to apply.
Students holding working VISA/ARC are not eligible to apply.
Should I take Chinese language courses if I receive the NYCU scholarship?
NYCU Scholarship awardees who are undergraduate students must enroll in at least four Mandarin courses during their studeies. Master’s and Ph.D. students must take at least two Mandarin courses during their studies.
Awardees who have taken Mandarin courses in Taiwan or have passed national-level Mandarin tests may provide related proof (TOCFL Level 2 or above) to be exempt from taking these courses.
Scholarship awardees can take Chinese Language placement test held by NYCU Chinese Language Center and use the passing certificate to waive Chinese language requirement for scholarship.
However, please note that some department/institute may also require Chinese language courses as graduation requirement. Please consult your department/institute for course waiving criteria.
What does “tuition waiver” award mean?
The tuition waiver award covers your basic tuition. However, you still need to pay for other incidental fees, such as dormitory, insurance and campus facilities.
How do I know when I need to renew for my scholarship?
Be aware of your scholarship duration and apply for a renewal during the application period announced by the OIA.
When can I receive the monthly stipend?
In principle, we will deposit the monthly stipend on the 10th of every month. However, the Office of International Affairs is not primarily responsible for the remittance, the exact dates for the money transfer may vary due to the involvement of other divisions. OIA can only provide an approximate expected date. If the stipend is not deposited on the specified date or the date announced by the OIA, please wait patiently.
