
2026 AfricaLics PhD Visiting Fellowship Programme
The AfricaLics PhD Visiting Fellowship Programme is open for applications for the 2026 cohort. Here’s what you need to know:
Eligibility:
- PhD students from low and lower-middle-income countries in Africa
- Enrolled in a relevant program at an African university
- Preferably completed first year of PhD studies by December 2025
- Working on a subject relevant to innovation and development
Benefits:
- Three-month study visit at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) in South Africa
- Online pre- and post-activities, including courses on writing skills and academic journal articles
- Mentorship from renowned scholars in Innovation and Development (I&D) studies
- Opportunities to participate in AfricaLics PhD Academy and research conferences
- Stipend of approximately $600 per month to cover living expenses
- Return flight costs and costs for participation in joint courses and mentorship fees covered by AfricaLics
Application Requirements:
- Brief application (one page/500 words) explaining background, motivation, and expected outcomes
- Brief outline of current PhD project (max. 5 pages)
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Letter of support from main PhD supervisor and university administration
- Copies of academic certificates
- One writing sample (article or chapter) from current PhD program
