The Commonwealth PhD Scholarships 2026 are fully funded opportunities for international students from eligible Commonwealth countries to pursue doctoral studies at a UK university. Here’s what you need to know:
Eligibility Requirements:
- Be a citizen of or have refugee status in an eligible Commonwealth country
- Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country
- Hold a first degree of at least upper second-class (2:1) honors standard or a lower second-class degree with a relevant postgraduate qualification
- Not be registered for a PhD or MPhil leading to a PhD at a UK university before September/October 2026
- Unable to afford studying in the UK without the scholarship
Scholarship Benefits:
- Full tuition fees covered by the CSC
- Monthly stipend: £1,452 or £1,781 for universities in London
- Approved airfare from home country to the UK and return
- Warm clothing allowance, study travel grant, and provision for fieldwork
- Child allowance for scholars with children
Application Process:
- Check eligibility and required documents
- Apply online through the CSC’s online application system
- Submit supporting documents, including:
- Proof of citizenship or refugee status
- Full transcripts and certified translations
- References from at least two individuals
- Supporting statement from a proposed UK supervisor
- Unconditional offer from a UK university
